Morangan Temple In Yogyakarta



         One Of the ancient Hindu Temples in Yogyakarta is Morangan temple. This temple is located in Morangan, Sindumartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, Yogyakarta. It very close to Kali Gendol and Mount Merapi. Morangan temple was built in 9 th. The temple was buried about 6.5 meters below ground when it was found in 1982.
          This Temple is unique because the main building is located in the basin of the ground filled the water. It looks like being in the middle of the pond. In the Complex of Morangan temple there's also found yoni, sage satues, and a number of other satues in the temple niches. The main temple is facing west while the ancillary temples facing east. The temple is consist legs, body, and the roof of the temple. It represents the three realms of the bhurioka, bhuwarioka, and swarioka.
          Morangan temple has spealicity; the relief panel in the temple is a part of the story Tantri Kamandaka. A story about tiger that fooled by a goat. It is quite special because during this relied is usually found in Budhhist temples. There are six unique reliefs contained in the walls of Morangan temple that illustrates religious ceremonies in Hindu.
         First, there are a relief two men are flaking the pile of flowers. Flowers are an important element in Hindu. Second, the relief of two woman flanks a large jug with a small pitcher. Pitcher of water is a scared place to cleanse the stain and sin. Third, two women are riding an elephant. Elephant is a special animal as in the old days only a king who should have it as a symbol of royal splendor.
          While the fourth is three sages bring holy book and uptala (blue lotus). The fifth relief is a relief Rishi Agastya in the niche. The last relief is gana's rooster. Gana or Shivaduta is a small creature bridesmaid shiva, while rooster symbolizes the strength, courage, and fertility.
